PSLE Kimberly and Kathy each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making tarts. The same mass of dough was used for each tart. Kimberly made 32 tarts and had 310 g of dough left. Kathy made 16 tarts and had 1.03 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each tart?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such tarts can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of tarts made by Kimberly and Kathy
= 32 - 16
= 16
1 kg = 1000 g
1.03 kg = 1.03 x 1000 = 1030 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Kathy and Kimberly
= 1030 - 310
= 720 g
Mass of 16 tarts = 720 g
Mass of 1 tart
= 720 ÷ 16
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1030 + 310
= 1340 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1340 ÷ 45
= 29 r 35
Number of tarts = 29
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 29
