PSLE Natalie and Fiona each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making muffins. The same mass of dough was used for each muffin. Natalie made 41 muffins and had 470 g of dough left. Fiona made 23 muffins and had 1.01 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each muffin?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such muffins can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of muffins made by Natalie and Fiona
= 41 - 23
= 18
1 kg = 1000 g
1.01 kg = 1.01 x 1000 = 1010 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Fiona and Natalie
= 1010 - 470
= 540 g
Mass of 18 muffins = 540 g
Mass of 1 muffin
= 540 ÷ 18
= 30 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1010 + 470
= 1480 g
Sets of 30 g
= 1480 ÷ 30
= 49 r 10
Number of muffins = 49
Answer(s): (a) 30 g; (b) 49
