PSLE Jen and Roshel each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making muffins. The same mass of dough was used for each muffin. Jen made 36 muffins and had 390 g of dough left. Roshel made 18 muffins and had 1.02 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each muffin?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such muffins can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of muffins made by Jen and Roshel
= 36 - 18
= 18
1 kg = 1000 g
1.02 kg = 1.02 x 1000 = 1020 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Roshel and Jen
= 1020 - 390
= 630 g
Mass of 18 muffins = 630 g
Mass of 1 muffin
= 630 ÷ 18
= 35 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1020 + 390
= 1410 g
Sets of 35 g
= 1410 ÷ 35
= 40 r 10
Number of muffins = 40
Answer(s): (a) 35 g; (b) 40
