PSLE Gwen and Dana each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making puffs. The same mass of dough was used for each puff. Gwen made 35 puffs and had 375 g of dough left. Dana made 15 puffs and had 1.275 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each puff?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such puffs can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of puffs made by Gwen and Dana
= 35 - 15
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.275 kg = 1.275 x 1000 = 1275 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Dana and Gwen
= 1275 - 375
= 900 g
Mass of 20 puffs = 900 g
Mass of 1 puff
= 900 ÷ 20
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1275 + 375
= 1650 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1650 ÷ 45
= 36 r 30
Number of puffs = 36
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 36
