PSLE Xylia and Kimberly each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making muffins. The same mass of dough was used for each muffin. Xylia made 39 muffins and had 290 g of dough left. Kimberly made 21 muffins and had 1.01 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each muffin?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such muffins can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of muffins made by Xylia and Kimberly
= 39 - 21
= 18
1 kg = 1000 g
1.01 kg = 1.01 x 1000 = 1010 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Kimberly and Xylia
= 1010 - 290
= 720 g
Mass of 18 muffins = 720 g
Mass of 1 muffin
= 720 ÷ 18
= 40 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1010 + 290
= 1300 g
Sets of 40 g
= 1300 ÷ 40
= 32 r 20
Number of muffins = 32
Answer(s): (a) 40 g; (b) 32
