PSLE Hazel and Wendy each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making muffins. The same mass of dough was used for each muffin. Hazel made 39 muffins and had 485 g of dough left. Wendy made 23 muffins and had 1.045 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each muffin?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such muffins can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of muffins made by Hazel and Wendy
= 39 - 23
= 16
1 kg = 1000 g
1.045 kg = 1.045 x 1000 = 1045 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Wendy and Hazel
= 1045 - 485
= 560 g
Mass of 16 muffins = 560 g
Mass of 1 muffin
= 560 ÷ 16
= 35 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1045 + 485
= 1530 g
Sets of 35 g
= 1530 ÷ 35
= 43 r 25
Number of muffins = 43
Answer(s): (a) 35 g; (b) 43
