PSLE Hazel and Wendy each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making tarts. The same mass of dough was used for each tart. Hazel made 32 tarts and had 430 g of dough left. Wendy made 12 tarts and had 1.13 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each tart?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such tarts can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of tarts made by Hazel and Wendy
= 32 - 12
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.13 kg = 1.13 x 1000 = 1130 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Wendy and Hazel
= 1130 - 430
= 700 g
Mass of 20 tarts = 700 g
Mass of 1 tart
= 700 ÷ 20
= 35 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1130 + 430
= 1560 g
Sets of 35 g
= 1560 ÷ 35
= 44 r 20
Number of tarts = 44
Answer(s): (a) 35 g; (b) 44
