PSLE Lucy and Sabrina each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making tarts. The same mass of dough was used for each tart. Lucy made 40 tarts and had 350 g of dough left. Sabrina made 22 tarts and had 1.07 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each tart?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such tarts can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of tarts made by Lucy and Sabrina
= 40 - 22
= 18
1 kg = 1000 g
1.07 kg = 1.07 x 1000 = 1070 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Sabrina and Lucy
= 1070 - 350
= 720 g
Mass of 18 tarts = 720 g
Mass of 1 tart
= 720 ÷ 18
= 40 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1070 + 350
= 1420 g
Sets of 40 g
= 1420 ÷ 40
= 35 r 20
Number of tarts = 35
Answer(s): (a) 40 g; (b) 35
