PSLE Emily and Xuan each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making puffs. The same mass of dough was used for each puff. Emily made 47 puffs and had 490 g of dough left. Xuan made 29 puffs and had 1.03 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each puff?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such puffs can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of puffs made by Emily and Xuan
= 47 - 29
= 18
1 kg = 1000 g
1.03 kg = 1.03 x 1000 = 1030 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Xuan and Emily
= 1030 - 490
= 540 g
Mass of 18 puffs = 540 g
Mass of 1 puff
= 540 ÷ 18
= 30 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1030 + 490
= 1520 g
Sets of 30 g
= 1520 ÷ 30
= 50 r 20
Number of puffs = 50
Answer(s): (a) 30 g; (b) 50
