PSLE Yoko and Gabby each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making scones. The same mass of dough was used for each scone. Yoko made 34 scones and had 410 g of dough left. Gabby made 14 scones and had 1.11 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each scone?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such scones can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of scones made by Yoko and Gabby
= 34 - 14
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.11 kg = 1.11 x 1000 = 1110 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Gabby and Yoko
= 1110 - 410
= 700 g
Mass of 20 scones = 700 g
Mass of 1 scone
= 700 ÷ 20
= 35 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1110 + 410
= 1520 g
Sets of 35 g
= 1520 ÷ 35
= 43 r 15
Number of scones = 43
Answer(s): (a) 35 g; (b) 43
