PSLE Kathy and Sabrina each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making scones. The same mass of dough was used for each scone. Kathy made 30 scones and had 500 g of dough left. Sabrina made 14 scones and had 1.06 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each scone?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such scones can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of scones made by Kathy and Sabrina
= 30 - 14
= 16
1 kg = 1000 g
1.06 kg = 1.06 x 1000 = 1060 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Sabrina and Kathy
= 1060 - 500
= 560 g
Mass of 16 scones = 560 g
Mass of 1 scone
= 560 ÷ 16
= 35 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1060 + 500
= 1560 g
Sets of 35 g
= 1560 ÷ 35
= 44 r 20
Number of scones = 44
Answer(s): (a) 35 g; (b) 44
