PSLE Shannon and Rachel each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making scones. The same mass of dough was used for each scone. Shannon made 32 scones and had 480 g of dough left. Rachel made 12 scones and had 1.18 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each scone?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such scones can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of scones made by Shannon and Rachel
= 32 - 12
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.18 kg = 1.18 x 1000 = 1180 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Rachel and Shannon
= 1180 - 480
= 700 g
Mass of 20 scones = 700 g
Mass of 1 scone
= 700 ÷ 20
= 35 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1180 + 480
= 1660 g
Sets of 35 g
= 1660 ÷ 35
= 47 r 15
Number of scones = 47
Answer(s): (a) 35 g; (b) 47
