PSLE Vanessa and Linda each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making tarts. The same mass of dough was used for each tart. Vanessa made 42 tarts and had 480 g of dough left. Linda made 26 tarts and had 1.04 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each tart?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such tarts can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of tarts made by Vanessa and Linda
= 42 - 26
= 16
1 kg = 1000 g
1.04 kg = 1.04 x 1000 = 1040 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Linda and Vanessa
= 1040 - 480
= 560 g
Mass of 16 tarts = 560 g
Mass of 1 tart
= 560 ÷ 16
= 35 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1040 + 480
= 1520 g
Sets of 35 g
= 1520 ÷ 35
= 43 r 15
Number of tarts = 43
Answer(s): (a) 35 g; (b) 43
