PSLE Wendy and Raeann each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making tarts. The same mass of dough was used for each tart. Wendy made 42 tarts and had 380 g of dough left. Raeann made 24 tarts and had 1.01 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each tart?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such tarts can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of tarts made by Wendy and Raeann
= 42 - 24
= 18
1 kg = 1000 g
1.01 kg = 1.01 x 1000 = 1010 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Raeann and Wendy
= 1010 - 380
= 630 g
Mass of 18 tarts = 630 g
Mass of 1 tart
= 630 ÷ 18
= 35 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1010 + 380
= 1390 g
Sets of 35 g
= 1390 ÷ 35
= 39 r 25
Number of tarts = 39
Answer(s): (a) 35 g; (b) 39
