PSLE Winnie and Risa each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making tarts. The same mass of dough was used for each tart. Winnie made 30 tarts and had 200 g of dough left. Risa made 10 tarts and had 1.1 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each tart?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such tarts can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of tarts made by Winnie and Risa
= 30 - 10
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.1 kg = 1.1 x 1000 = 1100 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Risa and Winnie
= 1100 - 200
= 900 g
Mass of 20 tarts = 900 g
Mass of 1 tart
= 900 ÷ 20
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1100 + 200
= 1300 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1300 ÷ 45
= 28 r 40
Number of tarts = 28
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 28
