PSLE Yoko and Emily each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making muffins. The same mass of dough was used for each muffin. Yoko made 50 muffins and had 500 g of dough left. Emily made 30 muffins and had 1.1 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each muffin?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such muffins can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of muffins made by Yoko and Emily
= 50 - 30
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.1 kg = 1.1 x 1000 = 1100 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Emily and Yoko
= 1100 - 500
= 600 g
Mass of 20 muffins = 600 g
Mass of 1 muffin
= 600 ÷ 20
= 30 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1100 + 500
= 1600 g
Sets of 30 g
= 1600 ÷ 30
= 53 r 10
Number of muffins = 53
Answer(s): (a) 30 g; (b) 53
