PSLE Nicole and Tammy each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making tarts. The same mass of dough was used for each tart. Nicole made 39 tarts and had 195 g of dough left. Tammy made 19 tarts and had 1.095 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each tart?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such tarts can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of tarts made by Nicole and Tammy
= 39 - 19
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.095 kg = 1.095 x 1000 = 1095 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Tammy and Nicole
= 1095 - 195
= 900 g
Mass of 20 tarts = 900 g
Mass of 1 tart
= 900 ÷ 20
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1095 + 195
= 1290 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1290 ÷ 45
= 28 r 30
Number of tarts = 28
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 28
