PSLE Eva and Hilda each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making puffs. The same mass of dough was used for each puff. Eva made 34 puffs and had 470 g of dough left. Hilda made 22 puffs and had 1.01 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each puff?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such puffs can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of puffs made by Eva and Hilda
= 34 - 22
= 12
1 kg = 1000 g
1.01 kg = 1.01 x 1000 = 1010 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Hilda and Eva
= 1010 - 470
= 540 g
Mass of 12 puffs = 540 g
Mass of 1 puff
= 540 ÷ 12
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1010 + 470
= 1480 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1480 ÷ 45
= 32 r 40
Number of puffs = 32
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 32
