PSLE Sarah and Barbara each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making scones. The same mass of dough was used for each scone. Sarah made 33 scones and had 445 g of dough left. Barbara made 17 scones and had 1.005 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each scone?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such scones can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of scones made by Sarah and Barbara
= 33 - 17
= 16
1 kg = 1000 g
1.005 kg = 1.005 x 1000 = 1005 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Barbara and Sarah
= 1005 - 445
= 560 g
Mass of 16 scones = 560 g
Mass of 1 scone
= 560 ÷ 16
= 35 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1005 + 445
= 1450 g
Sets of 35 g
= 1450 ÷ 35
= 41 r 15
Number of scones = 41
Answer(s): (a) 35 g; (b) 41
