PSLE Sabrina and Zara each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making sandwiches. The same mass of dough was used for each sandwich. Sabrina made 30 sandwiches and had 500 g of dough left. Zara made 14 sandwiches and had 1.22 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each sandwich?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such sandwiches can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of sandwiches made by Sabrina and Zara
= 30 - 14
= 16
1 kg = 1000 g
1.22 kg = 1.22 x 1000 = 1220 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Zara and Sabrina
= 1220 - 500
= 720 g
Mass of 16 sandwiches = 720 g
Mass of 1 sandwich
= 720 ÷ 16
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1220 + 500
= 1720 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1720 ÷ 45
= 38 r 10
Number of sandwiches = 38
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 38
