PSLE Natalie and Xylia each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making muffins. The same mass of dough was used for each muffin. Natalie made 38 muffins and had 460 g of dough left. Xylia made 18 muffins and had 1.06 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each muffin?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such muffins can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of muffins made by Natalie and Xylia
= 38 - 18
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.06 kg = 1.06 x 1000 = 1060 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Xylia and Natalie
= 1060 - 460
= 600 g
Mass of 20 muffins = 600 g
Mass of 1 muffin
= 600 ÷ 20
= 30 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1060 + 460
= 1520 g
Sets of 30 g
= 1520 ÷ 30
= 50 r 20
Number of muffins = 50
Answer(s): (a) 30 g; (b) 50
