PSLE Julie and Shannon each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making croissants. The same mass of dough was used for each croissant. Julie made 34 croissants and had 220 g of dough left. Shannon made 14 croissants and had 1.12 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each croissant?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such croissants can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of croissants made by Julie and Shannon
= 34 - 14
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.12 kg = 1.12 x 1000 = 1120 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Shannon and Julie
= 1120 - 220
= 900 g
Mass of 20 croissants = 900 g
Mass of 1 croissant
= 900 ÷ 20
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1120 + 220
= 1340 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1340 ÷ 45
= 29 r 35
Number of croissants = 29
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 29
