PSLE Victoria and Esther each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making puffs. The same mass of dough was used for each puff. Victoria made 30 puffs and had 450 g of dough left. Esther made 12 puffs and had 1.08 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each puff?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such puffs can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of puffs made by Victoria and Esther
= 30 - 12
= 18
1 kg = 1000 g
1.08 kg = 1.08 x 1000 = 1080 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Esther and Victoria
= 1080 - 450
= 630 g
Mass of 18 puffs = 630 g
Mass of 1 puff
= 630 ÷ 18
= 35 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1080 + 450
= 1530 g
Sets of 35 g
= 1530 ÷ 35
= 43 r 25
Number of puffs = 43
Answer(s): (a) 35 g; (b) 43
