In a shop, candles are sold only in boxes. A box of 7 short candles costs $2.80 and a box of 5 long candles costs $5.00.

1. Fabian wants 11 short candles and 3 long candles for his lanterns. What is the least amount of money that Fabian will need to spend on the candles?
2. Hilda bought 19 more long candles than short candles from the shop. The total number of candles she bought was fewer than 70. How much did Hilda spend on the candles altogether?

Number of sets of 7 short candles
= 11 ÷ 7
= 1 r 4

Number of boxes of short candles that Fabian needs to buy
= 1 + 1
= 2

Amount that Fabian needs to spend on short candles
= 2 x 2.80
= $5.60

Least amount that Fabian will need to spend
= 5.60 + 5.00
= $10.60
