In a shop, candles are sold only in boxes. A box of 9 short candles costs $2.80 and a box of 7 long candles costs $5.30.

1. Caden wants 36 short candles and 5 long candles for his lanterns. What is the least amount of money that Caden will need to spend on the candles?
2. Mary bought 22 more long candles than short candles from the shop. The total number of candles she bought was fewer than 80. How much did Mary spend on the candles altogether?

= 36 ÷ 9
= 4 

Amount that Caden needs to spend on short candles
= 4 x 2.80
= $11.20

Least amount that Caden will need to spend
= 11.20 + 5.30
= $16.50
