In a shop, candles are sold only in boxes. A box of 8 short candles costs $3.60 and a box of 5 long candles costs $6.20.

1. Charlie wants 32 short candles and 4 long candles for his lanterns. What is the least amount of money that Charlie will need to spend on the candles?
2. Esther bought 11 more long candles than short candles from the shop. The total number of candles she bought was fewer than 60. How much did Esther spend on the candles altogether?

= 32 ÷ 8
= 4 

Amount that Charlie needs to spend on short candles
= 4 x 3.60
= $14.40

Least amount that Charlie will need to spend
= 14.40 + 6.20
= $20.60
