In a shop, candles are sold only in boxes. A box of 9 short candles costs $3.30 and a box of 7 long candles costs $5.70.

1. Xavier wants 18 short candles and 5 long candles for his lanterns. What is the least amount of money that Xavier will need to spend on the candles?
2. Joelle bought 6 more long candles than short candles from the shop. The total number of candles she bought was fewer than 80. How much did Joelle spend on the candles altogether?

= 18 ÷ 9
= 2 

Amount that Xavier needs to spend on short candles
= 2 x 3.30
= $6.60

Least amount that Xavier will need to spend
= 6.60 + 5.70
= $12.30
