- Lee used all his $20-notes to buy a souvenir. He then had $545 less than Ray. How many $20-notes did Ray have?
(a)
The three boys had the same number of notes.
$5-notes have a lower denomination than $20-notes.
Since Ray had only $20-notes, he had the most money.
(b)
Difference in the number of notes of different values
= 11 - 5
= 6
Difference in the value of $20-notes and $5-notes
= 20 - 5
= $15
Difference in the total value of Kai's and Lee's notes
= 6 x 15
= $90
(c)
Value of $5-notes that Lee had left
= 11 x 5
= $55
Total value that Ray had
= 545 + 55
= $600
Number of $20-notes that Ray had
= 600 ÷ 20
= 30
Answer(s): (a) Ray; (b) $90; (c) 30
