- Jon used all his $10-notes to buy a souvenir. He then had $215 less than Gus. How many $10-notes did Gus have?
(a)
The three boys had the same number of notes.
$5-notes have a lower denomination than $10-notes.
Since Gus had only $10-notes, he had the most money.
(b)
Difference in the number of notes of different values
= 17 - 7
= 10
Difference in the value of $10-notes and $5-notes
= 10 - 5
= $5
Difference in the total value of Ace's and Jon's notes
= 10 x 5
= $50
(c)
Value of $5-notes that Jon had left
= 17 x 5
= $85
Total value that Gus had
= 215 + 85
= $300
Number of $10-notes that Gus had
= 300 ÷ 10
= 30
Answer(s): (a) Gus; (b) $50; (c) 30
