- Of the three men, who had the least money?
- What was the difference in the total value of Abe and Ray's notes?
- Ray used all his $50-notes to buy a gift. Jed then had $1120 more than Ray. How many $50-notes did Jed have?
(a)
The three men had the same number of notes.
$10-notes have a lower denomination than $50-notes.
Ray had more $10-notes than Abe while Jed had only the $50-notes.
Since Ray had the most number of $10-notes, he had the least money.
(b)
Difference in the number of notes of different values
= 18 - 5
= 13
Difference in the value of $50-note and $10-note
= 50 - 10
= $40
Difference in the total value of Abe's and Ray's notes
= 13 x 40
= $520
(c)
Value of $10-notes that Ray had left
= 18 x 10
= $180
Total value that Jed had
= 1120 + 180
= $1300
Number of $50-notes that Jed had
= 1300 ÷ 50
= 26
Answer(s): (a) Ray; (b) $520; (c) 26
