- Of the three men, who had the least money?
- What was the difference in the total value of Jon and Tim's notes?
- Tim used all his $100-notes to buy a souvenir. Gus then had $1850 more than Tim. How many $100-notes did Gus have?
(a)
The three men had the same number of notes.
$50-notes have a lower denomination than $100-notes.
Tim had more $50-notes than Jon while Gus had only the $100-notes.
Since Tim had the most number of $50-notes, he had the least money.
(b)
Difference in the number of notes of different values
= 23 - 15
= 8
Difference in the value of $100-note and $50-note
= 100 - 50
= $50
Difference in the total value of Jon's and Tim's notes
= 8 x 50
= $400
(c)
Value of $50-notes that Tim had left
= 23 x 50
= $1150
Total value that Gus had
= 1850 + 1150
= $3000
Number of $100-notes that Gus had
= 3000 ÷ 100
= 30
Answer(s): (a) Tim; (b) $400; (c) 30
