- Of the three men, who had the least money?
- What was the difference in the total value of Luc and Sam's notes?
- Sam used all his $100-notes to buy a souvenir. Rio then had $2100 more than Sam. How many $100-notes did Rio have?
(a)
The three men had the same number of notes.
$20-notes have a lower denomination than $100-notes.
Sam had more $20-notes than Luc while Rio had only the $100-notes.
Since Sam had the most number of $20-notes, he had the least money.
(b)
Difference in the number of notes of different values
= 20 - 14
= 6
Difference in the value of $100-note and $20-note
= 100 - 20
= $80
Difference in the total value of Luc's and Sam's notes
= 6 x 80
= $480
(c)
Value of $20-notes that Sam had left
= 20 x 20
= $400
Total value that Rio had
= 2100 + 400
= $2500
Number of $100-notes that Rio had
= 2500 ÷ 100
= 25
Answer(s): (a) Sam; (b) $480; (c) 25
