- Of the three men, who had the least money?
- What was the difference in the total value of Sam and Max's notes?
- Max used all his $50-notes to buy a present. Kai then had $1130 more than Max. How many $50-notes did Kai have?
(a)
The three men had the same number of notes.
$10-notes have a lower denomination than $50-notes.
Max had more $10-notes than Sam while Kai had only the $50-notes.
Since Max had the most number of $10-notes, he had the least money.
(b)
Difference in the number of notes of different values
= 22 - 17
= 5
Difference in the value of $50-note and $10-note
= 50 - 10
= $40
Difference in the total value of Sam's and Max's notes
= 5 x 40
= $200
(c)
Value of $10-notes that Max had left
= 22 x 10
= $220
Total value that Kai had
= 1130 + 220
= $1350
Number of $50-notes that Kai had
= 1350 ÷ 50
= 27
Answer(s): (a) Max; (b) $200; (c) 27
