- Jim used all his $10-notes to buy a souvenir. He then had $240 less than Lon. How many $10-notes did Lon have?
(a)
The three boys had the same number of notes.
$2-notes have a lower denomination than $10-notes.
Since Lon had only $10-notes, he had the most money.
(b)
Difference in the number of notes of different values
= 15 - 8
= 7
Difference in the value of $10-notes and $2-notes
= 10 - 2
= $8
Difference in the total value of Sam's and Jim's notes
= 7 x 8
= $56
(c)
Value of $2-notes that Jim had left
= 15 x 2
= $30
Total value that Lon had
= 240 + 30
= $270
Number of $10-notes that Lon had
= 270 ÷ 10
= 27
Answer(s): (a) Lon; (b) $56; (c) 27
