- Of the three men, who had the least money?
- What was the difference in the total value of Ray and Tom's notes?
- Tom used all his $100-notes to buy a souvenir. Ben then had $1200 more than Tom. How many $100-notes did Ben have?
(a)
The three men had the same number of notes.
$50-notes have a lower denomination than $100-notes.
Tom had more $50-notes than Ray while Ben had only the $100-notes.
Since Tom had the most number of $50-notes, he had the least money.
(b)
Difference in the number of notes of different values
= 12 - 7
= 5
Difference in the value of $100-note and $50-note
= 100 - 50
= $50
Difference in the total value of Ray's and Tom's notes
= 5 x 50
= $250
(c)
Value of $50-notes that Tom had left
= 12 x 50
= $600
Total value that Ben had
= 1200 + 600
= $1800
Number of $100-notes that Ben had
= 1800 ÷ 100
= 18
Answer(s): (a) Tom; (b) $250; (c) 18
