- Of the three men, who had the least money?
- What was the difference in the total value of Jed and Ned's notes?
- Ned used all his $50-notes to buy a souvenir. Eli then had $900 more than Ned. How many $50-notes did Eli have?
(a)
The three men had the same number of notes.
$20-notes have a lower denomination than $50-notes.
Ned had more $20-notes than Jed while Eli had only the $50-notes.
Since Ned had the most number of $20-notes, he had the least money.
(b)
Difference in the number of notes of different values
= 20 - 10
= 10
Difference in the value of $50-note and $20-note
= 50 - 20
= $30
Difference in the total value of Jed's and Ned's notes
= 10 x 30
= $300
(c)
Value of $20-notes that Ned had left
= 20 x 20
= $400
Total value that Eli had
= 900 + 400
= $1300
Number of $50-notes that Eli had
= 1300 ÷ 50
= 26
Answer(s): (a) Ned; (b) $300; (c) 26
