- Of the three men, who had the least money?
- What was the difference in the total value of Luc and Ian's notes?
- Ian used all his $50-notes to buy a souvenir. Kit then had $1160 more than Ian. How many $50-notes did Kit have?
(a)
The three men had the same number of notes.
$20-notes have a lower denomination than $50-notes.
Ian had more $20-notes than Luc while Kit had only the $50-notes.
Since Ian had the most number of $20-notes, he had the least money.
(b)
Difference in the number of notes of different values
= 17 - 11
= 6
Difference in the value of $50-note and $20-note
= 50 - 20
= $30
Difference in the total value of Luc's and Ian's notes
= 6 x 30
= $180
(c)
Value of $20-notes that Ian had left
= 17 x 20
= $340
Total value that Kit had
= 1160 + 340
= $1500
Number of $50-notes that Kit had
= 1500 ÷ 50
= 30
Answer(s): (a) Ian; (b) $180; (c) 30
