- Nat used all his $20-notes to buy a present. He then had $458 less than Dan. How many $20-notes did Dan have?
(a)
The three boys had the same number of notes.
$2-notes have a lower denomination than $20-notes.
Since Dan had only $20-notes, he had the most money.
(b)
Difference in the number of notes of different values
= 11 - 4
= 7
Difference in the value of $20-notes and $2-notes
= 20 - 2
= $18
Difference in the total value of Zac's and Nat's notes
= 7 x 18
= $126
(c)
Value of $2-notes that Nat had left
= 11 x 2
= $22
Total value that Dan had
= 458 + 22
= $480
Number of $20-notes that Dan had
= 480 ÷ 20
= 24
Answer(s): (a) Dan; (b) $126; (c) 24
