- Dan used all his $10-notes to buy a present. He then had $190 less than Jim. How many $10-notes did Jim have?
(a)
The three boys had the same number of notes.
$5-notes have a lower denomination than $10-notes.
Since Jim had only $10-notes, he had the most money.
(b)
Difference in the number of notes of different values
= 22 - 15
= 7
Difference in the value of $10-notes and $5-notes
= 10 - 5
= $5
Difference in the total value of Kit's and Dan's notes
= 7 x 5
= $35
(c)
Value of $5-notes that Dan had left
= 22 x 5
= $110
Total value that Jim had
= 190 + 110
= $300
Number of $10-notes that Jim had
= 300 ÷ 10
= 30
Answer(s): (a) Jim; (b) $35; (c) 30
