- What was the difference in the total value of Tim and Jed's notes?
- Jed used all his $100-notes to buy a present. Ben then had $2540 more than Jed. How many $100-notes did Ben have?
(a)
The three men had the same number of notes.
$20-notes have a lower denomination than $100-notes.
Jed had more $20-notes than Tim while Ben had only the $100-notes.
Since Jed had the most number of $20-notes, he had the least money.
(b)
Difference in the number of notes of different values
= 23 - 14
= 9
Difference in the value of $100-note and $20-note
= 100 - 20
= $80
Difference in the total value of Tim's and Jed's notes
= 9 x 80
= $720
(c)
Value of $20-notes that Jed had left
= 23 x 20
= $460
Total value that Ben had
= 2540 + 460
= $3000
Number of $100-notes that Ben had
= 3000 ÷ 100
= 30
Answer(s): (a) Jed; (b) $720; (c) 30
