- What was the difference in the total value of Hal and Roy's notes?
- Roy used all his $10-notes to buy a present. He then had $165 less than Ian. How many $10-notes did Ian have?
(a)
The three boys had the same number of notes.
$5-notes have a lower denomination than $10-notes.
Since Ian had only $10-notes, he had the most money.
(b)
Difference in the number of notes of different values
= 19 - 13
= 6
Difference in the value of $10-notes and $5-notes
= 10 - 5
= $5
Difference in the total value of Hal's and Roy's notes
= 6 x 5
= $30
(c)
Value of $5-notes that Roy had left
= 19 x 5
= $95
Total value that Ian had
= 165 + 95
= $260
Number of $10-notes that Ian had
= 260 ÷ 10
= 26
Answer(s): (a) Ian; (b) $30; (c) 26
