- Luc used all his $5-notes to buy a present. He then had $104 less than Dan. How many $5-notes did Dan have?
(a)
The three boys had the same number of notes.
$2-notes have a lower denomination than $5-notes.
Since Dan had only $5-notes, he had the most money.
(b)
Difference in the number of notes of different values
= 23 - 5
= 18
Difference in the value of $5-notes and $2-notes
= 5 - 2
= $3
Difference in the total value of Ian's and Luc's notes
= 18 x 3
= $54
(c)
Value of $2-notes that Luc had left
= 23 x 2
= $46
Total value that Dan had
= 104 + 46
= $150
Number of $5-notes that Dan had
= 150 ÷ 5
= 30
Answer(s): (a) Dan; (b) $54; (c) 30
