- Max used all his $20-notes to buy a gift. He then had $430 less than Luc. How many $20-notes did Luc have?
(a)
The three boys had the same number of notes.
$5-notes have a lower denomination than $20-notes.
Since Luc had only $20-notes, he had the most money.
(b)
Difference in the number of notes of different values
= 10 - 2
= 8
Difference in the value of $20-notes and $5-notes
= 20 - 5
= $15
Difference in the total value of Sam's and Max's notes
= 8 x 15
= $120
(c)
Value of $5-notes that Max had left
= 10 x 5
= $50
Total value that Luc had
= 430 + 50
= $480
Number of $20-notes that Luc had
= 480 ÷ 20
= 24
Answer(s): (a) Luc; (b) $120; (c) 24
