- Ike used all his $10-notes to buy a present. He then had $254 less than Ken. How many $10-notes did Ken have?
(a)
The three boys had the same number of notes.
$2-notes have a lower denomination than $10-notes.
Since Ken had only $10-notes, he had the most money.
(b)
Difference in the number of notes of different values
= 18 - 5
= 13
Difference in the value of $10-notes and $2-notes
= 10 - 2
= $8
Difference in the total value of Roy's and Ike's notes
= 13 x 8
= $104
(c)
Value of $2-notes that Ike had left
= 18 x 2
= $36
Total value that Ken had
= 254 + 36
= $290
Number of $10-notes that Ken had
= 290 ÷ 10
= 29
Answer(s): (a) Ken; (b) $104; (c) 29
