PSLE At a carnival, 30% of the tickets were sold at full price and 40% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 90 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $4800. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 30% - 40%
= 30%
30% → 90
1% → 90 ÷ 30 = 3
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 30% of the tickets
= 30 x 3
= 90
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 40% of the tickets
= 40 x 3
= 120

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 90 x 2 u + 120 x 1 u
= 180 u + 120 u
= 300 u
300 u = 4800
1 u = 4800 ÷ 300 = 16
Full price of the ticket
= 2 u
= 2 x 16
= $32
Answer(s): $32
