PSLE At a soccer match, 10% of the tickets were sold at full price and 20% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 280 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $4800. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 10% - 20%
= 70%
70% → 280
1% → 280 ÷ 70 = 4
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 10% of the tickets
= 10 x 4
= 40
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 20% of the tickets
= 20 x 4
= 80

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 40 x 2 u + 80 x 1 u
= 80 u + 80 u
= 160 u
160 u = 4800
1 u = 4800 ÷ 160 = 30
Full price of the ticket
= 2 u
= 2 x 30
= $60
Answer(s): $60
