PSLE At a carnival, 65% of the tickets were sold at full price and 25% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 40 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $18600. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 65% - 25%
= 10%
10% → 40
1% → 40 ÷ 10 = 4
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 65% of the tickets
= 65 x 4
= 260
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 25% of the tickets
= 25 x 4
= 100

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 260 x 2 u + 100 x 1 u
= 520 u + 100 u
= 620 u
620 u = 18600
1 u = 18600 ÷ 620 = 30
Full price of the ticket
= 2 u
= 2 x 30
= $60
Answer(s): $60
