PSLE At a fun fair, 70% of the tickets were sold at full price and 20% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 30 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $12000. What was the price of the ticket at half price?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 70% - 20%
= 10%
10% → 30
1% → 30 ÷ 10 = 3
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 70% of the tickets
= 70 x 3
= 210
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 20% of the tickets
= 20 x 3
= 60

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 210 x 2 u + 60 x 1 u
= 420 u + 60 u
= 480 u
480 u = 12000
1 u = 12000 ÷ 480 = 25
Price of the ticket at half price
= 1 u
= $25
Answer(s): $25
