PSLE At a basketball match, 60% of the tickets were sold at full price and 10% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 210 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $16380. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 60% - 10%
= 30%
30% → 210
1% → 210 ÷ 30 = 7
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 60% of the tickets
= 60 x 7
= 420
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 10% of the tickets
= 10 x 7
= 70

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 420 x 2 u + 70 x 1 u
= 840 u + 70 u
= 910 u
910 u = 16380
1 u = 16380 ÷ 910 = 18
Full price of the ticket

= 2 x 18
= $36
Answer(s): $36
