PSLE At a fun fair, 10% of the tickets were sold at full price and 15% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 525 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $5635. What was the price of the ticket at half price?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 10% - 15%
= 75%
75% → 525
1% → 525 ÷ 75 = 7
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 10% of the tickets
= 10 x 7
= 70
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 15% of the tickets
= 15 x 7
= 105

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 70 x 2 u + 105 x 1 u
= 140 u + 105 u
= 245 u
245 u = 5635
1 u = 5635 ÷ 245 = 23
Price of the ticket at half price
= 1 u
= $23
